About Bergenfield Jr Sr Little League
Bergenfield Jr Sr Little League serves the Bergenfield, New Jersey area, providing competitive baseball programs for older youth in the Junior (13-year-olds) and Senior League (ages 13-16) divisions. As part of one of the oldest chartered Little League programs in New Jersey, dating to 1951, the league operates across multiple fields in Bergen County and is a volunteer-operated nonprofit chartered with Little League International.
History
Bergenfield Little League was born in the summer of 1950 when Alice Harvey read a magazine article about Little League Baseball and shared the idea with her husband Ed. Ed wrote to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and received a response from Little League founder Carl E. Stolz. After securing sponsors including Maxwell Motors, the Lions Club, Rotary Club, V.F.W. Post #6467, and Bergen Motors, and with a field provided by the Mayor and Council at the end of Melrose Avenue, the Official Debut of Little League Baseball Club of Bergenfield Inc. took place on April 30, 1951. The league expanded steadily, establishing dedicated Junior and Senior League divisions to serve older youth in the community.
