About Christy Mathewson Little League

Located in Northeastern Pennsylvania, this league was named in honor of the most prestigious player to ever develop from our region, Christy Mathewson. Prior to playing with the New York Giants and Cincinnati Reds, he played baseball at the local Keystone Academy and Bucknell University and professional football as a fullback for the Pittsburgh Stars of the National Football League, circa 1900. Born August 12, 1880 Christy posted a career record of 373-188, e.r.a. of 2.13, 2,502 strikeouts, 2 time World Series champion (1905, 1921), 2 time Triple Crown (1905, 1908), 4 time NL wins leader (1905, 1907, 1908, 1910), 5 time NL ERA leader (1905, 1908, 1909, 1911, 1913), 5 time NL strikeout leader (1903–1905, 1907, 1908), Pitched two no-hitters, and was voted into the 1st class of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936 with 90.7% of the vote. Christy Mathewson Little League serves communities of Lackawanna, Wyoming, and Susquehanna Counties.
