About Frederick American Little League

Who Is Frederick American Little League? Frederick American Little League is a Frederick, Maryland based chartered member of Little League International. Since 1954 we have been a member of the Maryland District 2 Little League. We have provided competitive baseball for kids ages 3 to 14 from tee ball through majors and the re-introduced junior league. We welcome all players of any skill levels. Little League Baseball, Incorporated does not limit participation in its activities on the basis of disability, race, creed, color, national origin, gender, sexual preference, or religious preference. Our focus is to encourage participation, develop character, promote teamwork, and develop league and community pride while teaching valuable life lessons by following the 3 pillars of Little League Baseball: Character, Courage, Loyalty

History

Frederick American Little League was founded in 1954 in Frederick, Maryland, making it one of the longest-tenured Little League programs in the region. The league has been a member of Maryland District 2 Little League since its inception and has a storied history documented through decades of memorable games, local heroes, and milestones. Early standout Benny Grove signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 1965. Pitcher Clarence "Petey" Cooper threw a legendary 17-strikeout no-hit shutout in 1963. On May 3, 1975, the league made history by welcoming girls into baseball. Throughout its 70-plus years, Frederick American has grown from its origins at Angleberger Field to a full youth program serving children ages 3–14 through tee ball, minors, majors, and junior divisions.
