About Waterford Little League

About the League Today, Little League Baseball is the world's largest organized youth sport program. With over 2.5 million players, nearly 200,000 teams and more than 80 countries represented, Little League Baseball has come a long way from three teams playing on a vacant lot. But the aims of the organization -- teamwork, fair play and sportsmanship -- remain the same as they did nearly half a century ago. Waterford Little League (WLL) is proud to be entering its 3rd year in providing boys and girls of our community with the opportunity to enjoy Baseball. We are the newest local affiliate of the greatest baseball league ever created for children. Waterford, White Lake, Springfield Township, Sylvan Lake, Keego Harbor, Lake Angelus, Clarkston, Independence Township, Bloomfield, and parts of West Bloomfield are all within our boundries. WLL has filled a huge void in this area by joining up with the Little League national charter. We are nestled up next to Commerce Little League and Holly Little League and will be competing against them and others in tournaments to vie for a spot to go to regional competition to play on ESPN and ABC. The benefits extended by the Little League to kids goes far beyond just playing a game we love. Pontiac Residents: Pontiac residents are eligible to play in regular season games but are NOT eligible for tournament play. The beginning of April signifies the official start of the youth baseball seasons. Dads and moms post team schedules on the refrigerator. Some children may be a bit nervous to be starting a new sport; while others are veterans of the game, eager for another season on the field. It is during this time of year that thousands of leagues across the country hold their Opening Days. Many festivities and fun times are planned: team and individual pictures, exhibition games, great food, community solidarity, and much, much more. It is also during this time of year that we must reinforce Waterford's mission. Above all else, Waterford Little League Baseball is for our kids. In adopting rules, in establishing standards, and in ALL planning, our primary consideration is what is best for our participants. This is affirmed in our Mission Statement, which reads: "The Waterford Little League Baseball program, using the Little League competitive baseball rules, teaches skills, mental and physical development, a respect for the rules of the game, and basic ideals of sportsmanship and fair play. In all aspects, WLL Baseball is committed to providing our participants with the very best educational and sports experience possible. It is our fundamental belief that every child with a desire to play ball be afforded that opportunity." As coaches and parents, we need to realize right off the bat that it is not always about winning. Regardless of the age of our kids, with a positive youth baseball or softball experience, they will grow physically and emotionally. Most sports activities inherently teach such attributes as teamwork
