About West Brownsville Little League

West Brownsville Little League is a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Brownsville, Texas, serving children ages 4 to 15 with baseball and softball programs since 1952. The league runs Spring and Fall seasons, including a Challenger Division for children with special needs, and has enrolled nearly 700 players annually, making it one of the oldest continuously operating youth sports organizations in the Rio Grande Valley.

History

West Brownsville Little League was founded in 1952 when the Brownsville Kiwanians Club received approval from Little League Headquarters to charter the first Brownsville chapter. Due to overwhelming demand, the league was immediately divided into East and West Brownsville divisions. In the 1960s, a permanent park on Cottonwood Drive was established through a partnership with the Methodist Church, which was later donated to the City of Brownsville. In 2017, the league launched online registration, and from 2018 to 2020 invested nearly $500,000 (including a $300,000 grant from the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation) in major park renovations including new fields, dugouts, batting cages, an ADA-compliant bathroom, and drainage improvements. In 2025, the league’s Juniors Softball team won the Texas West State Championship, advancing to the Little League US Southwest Regional Tournament.
